Witch on the Holy Night Movie Gets January 2027 Worldwide Theatrical Dates

Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have set January and February 2027 theatrical dates for ufotable's Witch on the Holy Night anime film across North America, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand, and India. The rollout begins January 21, while screenings in the United States and Canada start January 29.

How the worldwide rollout is scheduled

The distributors are using a staggered calendar rather than a single global opening day. The confirmed dates are:

January 21: Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

January 26: Austria, Germany, and German-speaking Switzerland.

January 27: France, Belgium, and French-speaking Switzerland.

January 28: Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Central America, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Peru, Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Italian-speaking Switzerland, Australia, and New Zealand.

January 29: the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Finland, Poland, Sweden, and India.

February 5: Spain and Kazakhstan.

The sequence moves from the Middle East to German-speaking and French-speaking European markets before the January 28 expansion across Latin America, Europe, and Oceania. North America, India, and additional European countries follow on January 29. Spain and Kazakhstan complete the dates currently included in the international calendar. No home-video or streaming timetable was included with the theatrical announcement.

That schedule puts the first international screenings roughly two months after the film's November 20, 2026 Japanese theatrical opening. It also divides Switzerland across separate German, French, and Italian-language release dates, while the United States and Canada share their January 29 opening with several European markets and India.

The January 29 North American release is listed as a Sony Pictures theatrical engagement. The broader distribution plan names both Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment, giving the film a cinema route across multiple regions soon after its domestic debut in Japan.

What audiences can expect from the film

Witch on the Holy Night will be offered in Japanese with English subtitles and in an English-language dub in applicable markets. An English-subtitled trailer accompanied the international date announcement, shifting the adaptation from a general worldwide window to a country-by-country theatrical plan. The two presentation options belong to the same theatrical campaign, with no separate North American opening dates announced for the subtitled and dubbed versions.

Ufotable is handling animation production for the movie. The principal Japanese cast includes Haruka Tomatsu as Aoko Aozaki, Yusuke Kobayashi as Sojuro Shizuki, and Kana Hanazawa as Alice Kuonji. The story follows Aoko, a high school student and apprentice Magician who lives with Alice while working toward mastery of magic. Her encounter with Sojuro begins the central story adapted for the film.

The source material is TYPE-MOON's visual novel, first released for PC in Japan in 2012. A fully voiced HD edition later arrived on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in December 2022, followed by a Steam release in December 2023. The anime movie therefore brings a story that has already moved from its original Japanese PC release to modern console and computer platforms into theaters.

The next confirmed milestone is the Japanese premiere on November 20, 2026. The international run then starts in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates on January 21, 2027, before expanding across the announced markets through February 5.
