Kaiju No. 8 Final Mission Film Will Conclude the Anime in 2027
Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission will conclude the anime with a Production I.G theatrical film directed by Shigeyuki Miya and opening in Japan in 2027.

Kaiju No. 8 will conclude its anime run with the theatrical film Kaiju No. 8: The Final Mission in Japan in 2027. The project was announced on October 24 during the Defense Force Boot Camp in Tachikawa event, where a super teaser visual and its reveal video were also presented.
What the film announcement confirms
The new movie is the previously announced conclusion project for the Kaiju No. 8 anime, establishing a theatrical ending instead of another television season. Its 2027 release window is currently the only confirmed timing, with no specific Japanese opening date announced.
Shigeyuki Miya, a director on the television anime, is returning to direct the film. Production I.G is handling the animation production. Those details give the finale continuity with the existing adaptation while shifting its last chapter to cinemas.
The first promotional image focuses on the scale of the final threat. It shows a devastated landscape beneath a huge, unidentified kaiju, accompanied by a line declaring that the age of humanity is ending. The reveal video presents that same super teaser visual rather than a full sequence of footage, so it functions as an early statement of tone rather than a story trailer.
Masaya Fukunishi, the voice actor for Kafka Hibino and Kaiju No. 8, also provided a comment published with the announcement.
How The Final Mission fits the anime
The film follows two television seasons adapted from Naoya Matsumoto's manga. The first season aired in 2024, and the second followed in 2025. A conclusion installment had already entered production, but the latest announcement is the first confirmation that the story will finish as a feature film.
Matsumoto's source manga was serialized on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ app. The series is set in a Japan where kaiju attacks are part of daily life and the Defense Force battles those threats.
Before this event, the anime had only confirmed that a concluding installment was in production. The October 24 update answers the central format question: the ending will be a feature film released in Japanese theaters. The newly revealed 2027 window is the first schedule attached to that conclusion project.
The setup retains the franchise's central conflict around Kafka, a former kaiju cleanup worker who gains the ability to transform into Kaiju No. 8 while pursuing his goal of serving in the Defense Force. The teaser's destroyed city and looming creature place the emphasis on a new large-scale threat, but the announcement stops short of identifying that kaiju or explaining the film's plot.
The Final Mission now gives the anime a confirmed theatrical format and a 2027 release window for its ending, with Production I.G returning to bring the series to its planned conclusion on the big screen.
