The production team behind Ghost: End of Night announced on October 21 that Kenjiro Tsuda, Hiroki Yasumoto and Hiroshi Kamiya have joined the original anime film's voice cast. Shingo Natsume's first original animated feature is scheduled to open in theaters across Japan on February 11, 2027.

Who the new cast members play

Tsuda voices Moby Dick, a figure who becomes interested in the protagonist Nike and approaches her. Yasumoto plays Karate, while Kamiya voices Ito. Karate and Ito are both childhood friends of Masu, the man Nike meets during her search for a place where she belongs.

The three additions broaden the group around the film's two previously announced leads. Mayu Hotta voices Nike, a gifted 15-year-old who has already received the privilege of being "selected." Issei Takahashi plays Masu, who lives with a deep sense of loss after the deaths of his family members.

The story is set in a near future where work is no longer necessary. At age 18, each person undergoes a selection that determines whether the world needs them. Although Nike was selected early, she feels isolated and out of step with society, setting her on the path that brings her into contact with Masu and the newly detailed characters.

The cast members also addressed the film's ideas in comments released with the announcement. Tsuda highlighted Natsume's creative sensibility, Natsume Ono's characters, Hitsujibungaku's songs and Madhouse's animation. Yasumoto focused on the choices people continually make and said the film encourages deeper thought. Kamiya reflected on work as time given to others, connecting that idea to the film's labor-free society.

The film's creative team and release path

Natsume is directing and writing the screenplay. Madhouse is producing the animation, with manga creator Natsume Ono providing the original character concepts and Norifumi Kugai handling character design. Ohzora Kimishima is composing the score, while Hitsujibungaku provides the theme and insert songs.

A separate October 21 update also confirmed a limited collaboration ticket featuring Hitsujibungaku artwork. Two thousand cards will go on sale at the band's tour finale at Tokyo's Yoyogi National Gymnasium on November 10 and 11, priced at 1,600 yen each.

Ghost: End of Night has already begun its international festival run ahead of its Japanese theatrical opening. Its world premiere took place at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain on October 9, followed by its Asian premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea on October 13. Natsume and the film's animation producer attended the Busan screening and discussion.

The film also screened at the Bucheon International Animation Festival in South Korea, which runs from October 23 through October 27. The film is also selected for the animation section of the Tokyo International Film Festival, scheduled from October 26 through November 4.

The new casting announcement connects three established performers directly to Nike and Masu's story as the film moves through its festival schedule. Its nationwide Japanese theatrical release remains set for February 11, 2027.
