Kokamumo's four-panel comedy manga Null Meta will receive a television anime in Japan in 2027. Kai Ikarashi, the director of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, will make his television-series directorial debut on the project, with Soigne handling animation production. The announcement also identifies the core creative staff behind the adaptation.

What the anime will adapt

Null Meta follows Kurumi, an android, and Chiaki, her guardian, as they share an unpredictable everyday life with the cool, easygoing Sakina and the comparatively sensible Shiyuki. The manga is serialized in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara MAX, and its television adaptation will bring that four-character daily-life setup into animation. The source material is credited to Kokamumo.

The character arrangement establishes contrasting roles within the group: Kurumi is the android at the center, Chiaki is responsible for her, Sakina is cool and self-paced, and Shiyuki is framed as the sole voice of reason, albeit with the original description's own question mark. That balance defines the everyday comedy currently confirmed for the anime.

The initial reveal confirms a 2027 Japanese broadcast window but does not narrow that down to a season or premiere date. It also leaves the voice cast, episode count, broadcaster, and international streaming plans for later announcements. That makes the production team the main concrete information available at this stage.

Kokamumo marked the adaptation by thanking the manga's readers and expressing anticipation for the day Kurumi and the others' ridiculous, endearing, and healthy daily lives reach viewers in animated form. Ikarashi likewise said he would work to deliver an enjoyable anime. Both comments frame the project around the manga's offbeat ensemble and everyday comedy.

The announced creative team

Ikarashi's appointment is especially notable because Null Meta is set to be his first time directing a television anime series. He is also directing Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 and has contributed episode-level creative work to other anime productions. For Null Meta, he will lead a core team that pairs series composition by Tatsuya Takahashi with character designs by Shin Ogasawara.

Takahashi's series-composition role covers the overall organization of the television narrative, an important task for adapting a four-panel comedy into full episodes. Ogasawara, whose credits include character-design work connected to Pokémon: Twilight Wings, will translate Kokamumo's cast for animation. Soigne is the animation studio responsible for producing the series.

The staff reveal gives Null Meta a clear production identity well before its broadcast. Ikarashi brings a background associated with striking animation and direction, while Takahashi and Ogasawara cover the structural and visual foundations of the adaptation. Their announced roles also establish who will shape the manga's short-form rhythm and central group dynamic for television.

Null Meta is now confirmed as a 2027 television anime from director Kai Ikarashi and studio Soigne, built around Kokamumo's four-person comedy premise and the newly announced principal staff.
