Happy Kanako's Killer Life TV Anime Announced for April 2027
Toshiya Wakabayashi's Happy Kanako's Killer Life is getting a Drive-produced TV anime scheduled to premiere in Japan in April 2027.

Happy Kanako's Killer Life, Toshiya Wakabayashi's four-panel comedy manga, is getting a television anime in Japan in April 2027. The adaptation will be produced by Drive, with Shinji Takamatsu directing and handling the scripts. The announcement also introduced the principal cast, core staff, a teaser visual, and a promotional video.
Kanako's career change moves to television
The story follows Kanako Nishino, an office worker who leaves an exploitative employer and searches for a better job. Her next interview turns out to be with an assassination company, a workplace whose favorable pay, holidays, and benefits contrast sharply with the nature of its business. Kanako then discovers an unexpected aptitude for contract killing while trying to adjust to a profession far outside ordinary office life.
That contrast is the central comic hook of Wakabayashi's manga. Kanako is not introduced as a hardened action hero. She is a former employee looking for a healthier working environment, only to land in a dangerous field where she may be more capable than she realizes. The teaser carries that workplace joke into animation, presenting its unusual recruitment pitch before shifting attention to Kanako and her new career.
The initial cast has Hana Tamegai voicing Kanako. Ryota Suzuki plays Sakurai, her senior colleague, while Junichi Suwabe voices the company's president. Those three roles establish the workplace at the heart of the series and the relationships that will shape Kanako's attempt to settle into the job.
The manga has nine collected volumes and has also received a live-action drama adaptation.
Drive and Shinji Takamatsu lead production
Shinji Takamatsu is directing the anime and handling the scripts, giving him responsibility for both its overall staging and story structure. Yoshiyuki Okubo is serving as character designer and chief animation director, while Drive is handling animation production. Together, the announced positions cover the key creative leads responsible for translating the manga's visual comedy and compact storytelling to television.
The announcement included both a teaser visual and the first promotional video. The visual places a visibly uneasy Kanako in an interview setting while numerous guns point toward her, turning an ordinary hiring scene into a concise image of the series' premise. The video likewise frames the assassin company through the language of job recruitment, emphasizing the collision between employee-friendly conditions and lethal work.
Wakabayashi's original is a full-color four-panel manga, a format built around short setups and punchlines. The television version will therefore need to connect those compact comic beats into episode-length stories while preserving Kanako's anxious personality and the absurdity of her workplace. Takamatsu's dual role as director and scriptwriter makes that adaptation approach one of the production's most notable confirmed details.
An exact April premiere date, Japanese broadcast channels, and streaming plans have not yet been announced. For now, the next confirmed milestone is the TV anime's April 2027 debut window, with Drive producing and the three principal cast members in place.
