Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Manga Resumes Serialization on August 18 After Nine-Month Hiatus

Square Enix's G Fantasy magazine confirmed that AidaIro's Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun manga will resume serialization in the magazine's September 2026 issue, hitting shelves on August 18. The return ends a nine-month hiatus that began in November 2025 due to the creator's medical treatment.

A Long-Awaited Return

The beloved supernatural comedy-mystery last published a new chapter on November 18, 2025, before AidaIro stepped away for medical treatment related to an unspecified illness. G Fantasy's official account announced the comeback, confirming the September issue as the target for the manga's return.

This is not the first time the series has paused for health reasons. Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun also took a break in July 2025 before returning the following month. However, the current hiatus has been significantly longer, stretching across nine months and leaving fans uncertain about the series' future.

The manga, which follows the story of a girl named Nene Yashiro and her encounters with Hanako-kun - a ghost who haunts the girls' bathroom at Kamome Academy - has been serialized in G Fantasy since 2014. Its blend of supernatural lore, humor, and emotional storytelling has built a devoted readership both in Japan and internationally.

Volume Releases Continue

Despite the serialization pause, readers have not been entirely without new Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun content in print. Square Enix published the manga's 25th compiled volume in Japan in October 2025, collecting chapters from before the hiatus began.

On the English-language side, Yen Press handles the licensed release. The publisher released volume 23 in November 2024 and is set to publish volume 24 on July 28, 2026 - just weeks before the manga's serialization resumes in Japan. The English volumes continue to close the gap with the Japanese releases, giving international fans a steady pipeline of material even during the hiatus.

Anime Franchise in Strong Shape

The Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun franchise has expanded well beyond the manga page. The first television anime adaptation premiered in January 2020 with 12 episodes. A second season followed in January 2025, streaming on Crunchyroll with an English dub, and its second part aired in July 2025.

Additionally, the spinoff After-School Hanako-kun received its own anime adaptation, which premiered in October 2023 on Crunchyroll. The anime adaptations have played a major role in expanding the franchise's global audience, making the manga's return all the more anticipated by a fanbase that has grown considerably since the series first debuted.
