TV Tokyo and animation company Plott unveiled the original short web anime Mecha Samurai on October 27, confirming a staged online rollout that begins November 2. A first trailer and key visual accompanied the announcement, while the project will distribute its earliest vertical shorts through YouTube, X, Instagram, and TikTok.

How the release schedule works

The November 2 launch begins the confirmed rollout. Vertical short videos will start across the four social platforms that day, with new posts planned daily. The first pre-season episode is then scheduled for YouTube on November 20. Additional installments will follow in sequence, although their individual dates have not been announced.

The full main series is slated to begin streaming on YouTube in spring 2027. That makes the November material an introduction rather than the complete series launch. The project is being built around a social-first rollout, using short videos to establish its characters and setting before the longer main story arrives. No television broadcast window was included in the announcement, and the confirmed release plan remains centered on the project's official online channels.

Story, cast, and creative team

Mecha Samurai takes place in modern Japan after gates to another world appear around the country. Mechanical supernatural beings emerge from those gates and attack people, while an organization known as the Samurai fights back with supernatural weapons called Katana. The central character, Chiaki Kuzumi, wields a Katana that contains the power of the very creatures the Samurai oppose.

Kentaro Mashiro voices Chiaki, an inexperienced but determined fighter chosen by the legendary Katana Benitora. Riona Yamashita plays Sana Fujimiya, a gamer from a prominent family whose weapon lets her command spirits that inhabit household appliances. Ayumu Mizukami voices Kiyoharu Obana, a money-minded marksman who fights with a gun-shaped Katana named Murakumo.

Hiroyuki Takei, the manga creator associated with Shaman King, provided the original main character concepts. Plott is handling the animation as part of a joint project with TV Tokyo. The companies describe the work as a Japanese-style pop samurai action series, and the newly released trailer shows its young fighters confronting mechanical enemies.

The project also represents TV Tokyo's first participation in an anime designed around YouTube and social-platform distribution. Plott, whose business centers on short-form animated properties, is using its established social release model while TV Tokyo joins the production and wider development of the original property.

Plott president Shota Okuno said the project took shape after the company connected with Takei, while TV Tokyo's involvement opened the way for broader development. TV Tokyo Anime Division Director Takayuki Ito described it as a fully original, YouTube-led series in which the short videos can reveal sides of the characters beyond the main narrative.

Mecha Samurai's next confirmed milestone is the daily vertical-short launch on November 2, followed by the first pre-season episode on November 20. Its full YouTube series remains planned for spring 2027, with the November releases serving as the first public step into the story.
