SSS-Class Revival Hunter Anime Announced for January 2027

SSS-Class Revival Hunter is getting a television anime in January 2027. The adaptation was announced on September 9 with a teaser trailer and visual, while the first cast and production staff were also disclosed. Studio fu is handling animation, and Crunchyroll has confirmed plans to stream the series internationally.

What the announcement confirms

Takeo Otsuka will voice Kim Gongja, the story's F-rank Hunter protagonist, while Satoshi Hino will play the Sword Emperor, the former elite Hunter who becomes his ghostly partner. The pairing sits at the center of a story built around Gongja's unusual route from envy and obscurity toward greater power.

Hiroaki Sakurai is directing at Studio fu. Sayuri Oba is responsible for the series scripts, and Takahiro Yoshimatsu is designing the characters. HAYATE is credited with production. The launch materials include both a first promotional video and a teaser visual, giving the adaptation its first public look alongside the cast and staff reveal.

Speaking in the announcement materials, Sakurai said the original began as a novel before developing into a comic with readers around the world. He described the adaptation as both an honor and a source of pressure, and said Yoshimatsu's appointment helped make the production path feel clearer.

The January 2027 window is confirmed, but the announcement does not yet specify an exact premiere date or Japanese broadcast schedule. Crunchyroll says it will carry the series across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Indian subcontinent, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore.

The story behind the adaptation

The anime adapts the Korean webcomic of the same name, based on Sinnoa's original novel, adapted by Neida and illustrated by Bill K. Its setup follows Kim Gongja, a low-ranked Hunter living inside a tower filled with monsters and ambitious fighters seeking fame and wealth. Gongja envies the Flame Emperor, the top-ranked Hunter, until he receives a powerful copying ability with a brutal activation condition: it works only after he dies.

That rule changes the shape of the story. Gongja can copy another person's skill when that person kills him, and one acquired ability returns him 24 hours into the past whenever he dies. After learning about the Flame Emperor's actions and being killed, he uses repeated returns to pursue revenge. His path later connects him with the Sword Emperor, who supports him as a spectral companion.

The project is based on a Korean work that began as a web novel before receiving its webcomic adaptation. The webcomic launched in December 2020, and an official English edition is available through Tapas. The international availability of the source material has already introduced Gongja's death-driven progression story to readers outside Korea.

With the adaptation now public, January 2027 is the next confirmed milestone. The teaser, lead cast, core staff, Studio fu production, and international streaming plan together establish the first concrete outline of how SSS-Class Revival Hunter will move from Korean webcomic to television anime.
