Doraemon: Nobita's Steam-Powered Time Machine Sets March 2027 Release

Doraemon: Nobita's Steam-Powered Time Machine will open in Japanese theaters on March 5, 2027. The film's official team announced the date on September 15, 2026, alongside a teaser visual and the first teaser to include footage from the film, giving viewers their clearest look yet at its 19th-century London adventure.

The teaser turns time travel into a steam-powered journey

The new footage sends Doraemon, Nobita, Shizuka, Gian, and Suneo from 21st-century Japan to 19th-century England. Nobita reacts excitedly to the prospect of visiting London before the group appears among historic streets in period-inspired clothing. Their main vehicle is the Steam-Powered Time Machine of the title, a train-like machine that produces clouds of steam and races across glowing tracks while traveling through time.

The preview does more than introduce the setting. After Doraemon calls for the journey to begin, the images suddenly run backward and his top hat falls away. He then warns that the flow of time is changing, establishing a problem that goes beyond simply reaching the past. The film is described as a completely original story, but the full nature of that time-related disruption has not been revealed.

The monochrome teaser visual takes a quieter approach. Doraemon and Nobita pose in 19th-century-style outfits with the Steam-Powered Time Machine behind them, creating the appearance of an old commemorative photograph. A line on the visual frames the movie as a story of time connecting the past and future.

A new creative team leads the 46th Doraemon film

This is the 46th feature in the Doraemon film series. Rushio Moriyama is directing after working on the Doraemon television anime since 2020, while Makoto Ueda is writing the screenplay. Both are making their first contribution to the theatrical film series.

Moriyama described the project as an adventure built around steam and time, and said he is drawing on the excitement he felt reading and watching Doraemon's long-form stories as a child. Ueda said he selected 19th-century London because its steam technology made it a fitting setting for the birth of a time machine.

Ueda is the representative of the theater group Europe Kikaku and has written Summer Time Machine Blues and other works centered on time and science-fiction ideas. His previous Doraemon credit is a 2024 birthday television special. That background directly matches the new film's focus on machinery, time travel, and an altered timeline.

The confirmed principal voice cast includes Wasabi Mizuta as Doraemon, Megumi Ohara as Nobita, Yumi Kakazu as Shizuka, Subaru Kimura as Gian, and Tomokazu Seki as Suneo. Fujiko F. Fujio is credited as the original creator.

The March 5 date replaces the broader spring 2027 window announced with the movie's first super teaser in July. The next confirmed milestone is now its Japanese theatrical opening, while the newly released footage establishes London, the steam-powered machine, and the changing flow of time as the central pieces of the adventure.
