Wound and Bandage Yakuza Romcom Manga Gets J.C. Staff TV Anime in January 2027

Umihoshi Nanai's yakuza romantic comedy manga Wound and Bandage (Kizuguchi to Houtai) is getting a TV anime adaptation from J.C. Staff. The series will premiere in January 2027 on the ABC TV and TV Asahi late-night ANiMAZiNG!!! programming block.

Staff and Production

Miyuki Ishida will direct the anime in what marks a TV directorial debut, with Susumu Yamakawa handling series composition and scripts. Natsuki Oyama is designing the characters. J.C. Staff, the studio behind titles such as Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma and DanMachi, is handling animation production. The series is scheduled for the late-night Saturday time slot at 26:00 (effectively 2:00 a.m. Sunday) on the ANiMAZiNG!!! block. No voice cast has been announced at this stage.

About the Manga

Wound and Bandage originated as a one-shot published in Kodansha's Monthly Magazine Base in February 2024. Following a strong reception, the manga began full serialization on Kodansha's web manga platform in August 2024. The series has grown quickly since then, with its fifth compiled volume shipping on July 16.

The story centers on Riyo Washizu, the daughter of the leader of a powerful yakuza organization that controls the Kanto region of Japan. Her caretaker, Go Kiritani, is a capable young boss in the organization tasked with looking after her. Their dynamic takes an unexpected turn when Kiritani discovers Riyo's unusual quirk - she gets excited seeing strong people in moments of vulnerability, a tendency she calls "Yowara." The relationship between the yakuza heiress and her devoted caretaker deepens through increasingly comedic and heartfelt situations as Riyo's peculiar fascination keeps putting them in awkward scenarios.

First Visuals Revealed

Two teaser visuals accompanied the announcement. One depicts the two main characters in a close embrace that highlights a tender, vulnerable moment between them. The second visual focuses on Riyo's distinct change in expression as she observes an injured Kiritani, capturing the core comedic premise of the series. The contrast between Riyo's yakuza background and her offbeat romantic tendencies is front and center in both images, establishing the tone the anime adaptation appears to be aiming for.

The January 2027 premiere places Wound and Bandage in the winter anime season alongside what is shaping up to be a competitive slate. J.C. Staff's involvement brings considerable experience with romantic comedy adaptations to the project, and the ANiMAZiNG!!! block on ABC TV and TV Asahi has become a reliable home for late-night anime premieres.
