New Ghost in the Shell Anime Project Enters Production at Science SARU
A new Ghost in the Shell animation project has entered production at Science SARU, following the studio's 2026 television adaptation.

Bandai Namco Filmworks announced on October 23 that a new Ghost in the Shell animation project has entered production at Science SARU. The reveal took place in Tokyo during a press preview for OPEN HOUSE, a public event at Dover Street Market Ginza, where attendees received a surprise teaser flyer for the project.
What the announcement confirms
The project is based on Shirow Masamune's cyberpunk manga and currently carries the working title The Ghost in the Shell. Science SARU is handling animation production, extending the studio's involvement with the franchise after it produced the 2026 television anime THE GHOST IN THE SHELL.
That series began broadcasting and streaming in July and ran through September. The new production is presented as a fresh project rather than another announced installment of the same television run. Its format, release window, staff lineup, cast, and distribution plans have not yet been disclosed.
The initial project information lists Masamune as the original creator and identifies Kodansha's KC Deluxe edition as the manga publication. A newly unveiled teaser visual accompanies the announcement, but it does not establish whether the project will be a television series, film, or another form of animation.
How the project was revealed
The production news surfaced through a surprise flyer distributed at the October 23 press preview for OPEN HOUSE. The public event was scheduled to begin the following day at Dover Street Market Ginza in Tokyo's Chuo ward. The flyer and its visual served as the first formal notice that another animated Ghost in the Shell production was moving forward.
The event also included a signing session with Mokochan, director of the 2026 THE GHOST IN THE SHELL television anime, tied to a collaboration with apparel project GEEKS RULE. That setting connected the new production announcement to the franchise's most recent Science SARU adaptation without identifying a returning creative team for the new work.
Science SARU's return creates a direct production link between the television anime and the newly announced work. The official notice highlights three other titles from the studio: Inu-Oh, The Colors Within, and DAN DA DAN. It also cites Inu-Oh's Golden Globe nomination and The Colors Within's best animation award at the Shanghai International Film Festival as examples of the studio's international recognition.
Beyond the studio assignment, Bandai Namco Filmworks described the new title as an entirely fresh creative endeavor, placing it after the July 2026 launch of the television series while stopping short of defining its narrative relationship to that adaptation. The working-title label also leaves the final name open pending a later update.
Bandai Namco Filmworks says future updates will be shared through its official social media channels. For now, the working title, Masamune credit, and Science SARU production role are the project's confirmed details.
