VOTOMS: Die Graue Hexe Reveals Full Cast in New 30-Second Trailer

Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Die Graue Hexe revealed its full main voice lineup and a 30-second trailer on September 4 through the film's official website, ahead of Part 1's nationwide Japanese theatrical opening on November 20. The update assigns roles to every previously announced cast member and expands the character information around leads Ash Vamps and Maki Staufenberg.

The full voice lineup

Miyuki Sawashiro voices Ash, the feared Armored Trooper pilot known as the "witch" because she survives missions that destroy the rest of her unit. Mabuki Ando plays Maki, an officer sent to the front under the public cover of battlefield reporting while secretly investigating Ash.

Shinichiro Miki and Yuki Kaji voice members of Maki's 808th Independent Propaganda Company. Their characters accompany her as she follows Ash into a dangerous operation. Yuichi Nakamura, Satoshi Tsuruoka, Tomokazu Sugita, and Kenta Miyake play soldiers in the Vamps Platoon, the penal unit built around Ash. The official character profiles describe the group as capable but troubled Armored Trooper pilots brought together under harsh circumstances.

The rest of the lineup fills out the command, military police, and maintenance sides of the front-line base. Chafurin voices the base commander, while Hochu Otsuka and Daisuke Ono play military police officers. Takayuki Sugo, Takahiro Sakurai, and Sumire Uesaka portray members of the maintenance company. The September 4 update also published comments from the performers about joining the long-running VOTOMS franchise and working on Mamoru Oshii's film.

Otsuka's character leads military discipline and investigations at the base, while Ono's officer serves as his deputy and is assigned to watch Maki's group. Sugo's maintenance officer oversees the base's Armored Troopers, Sakurai plays his second-in-command, and Uesaka voices a young mechanic.

Where the new characters fit

Die Graue Hexe takes place near the end of the Hundred Years' War, earlier than the postwar setting of the original 1983 television series. Maki arrives at a base on Valkyria II with orders to uncover why Ash repeatedly returns alive from operations that appear impossible to survive. She ultimately joins the Vamps Platoon's forced drop mission as an Armored Trooper pilot, putting the investigation inside the battle rather than behind the lines.

The newly assigned roles clarify the forces surrounding that central pair. Maki has her own subordinates, Ash fights beside penal-unit soldiers, and the base has a defined command structure along with military police and maintenance personnel. That organization gives the film a broader ensemble while keeping its central mystery focused on Ash's survival and Maki's pursuit of the truth.

The film is directed by Mamoru Oshii, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Kei Yamamura. Original VOTOMS creator Ryosuke Takahashi serves as supervisor. Sunrise handles planning and animation production, with Production I.G providing production cooperation, and Kenji Kawai composing the music.

Die Graue Hexe is planned as a two-part theatrical project. Its first part reaches cinemas across Japan on November 20, with the 30-second trailer and completed role assignments serving as the latest confirmed preview.
