Kota Kawae's Nue's Exorcist is getting a television anime, with Studio Hibari producing the series for a summer 2027 broadcast across TV Asahi's nationwide network in Japan. The adaptation was announced on October 12, 2026, alongside its first visual and a special promotional video.

What the announcement confirms

The reveal was part of a special Jump PRESS program from Weekly Shonen Jump. An archive of the anime announcement segment was subsequently made available through the magazine's official Jump Channel, preserving the opening footage and interviews connected to the new production.

Hiroyuki Hashimoto will direct the adaptation at Studio Hibari. Hiroshi Seko is handling series composition, while Shunpei Mochizuki is responsible for character designs. The announced production team also includes sound director Takayuki Yamaguchi and music collective MONACA.

The initial cast centers on three characters from the manga. Kaito Miura voices protagonist Gakuro Yajima, a student who has been able to see supernatural beings known as phantoms since childhood. Saori Onishi plays Nue, the mysterious female phantom whose meeting with Gakuro changes his life. Sayumi Suzushiro voices Kazusa Suo, another key figure in the series' supernatural conflicts.

The first promotional material presents the adaptation as a school-set dark fantasy built around supernatural battles and Gakuro's personal growth. The official site also carries comments from Kawae and the three announced cast members. Miura said this will be his first time playing the lead character in an anime, while Onishi described Nue as a character with more sides than her first impression suggests.

A specific premiere date and international streaming plans have not been announced. For now, the confirmed window remains summer 2027 on TV Asahi in Japan.

The story behind Nue's Exorcist

Kawae launched Nue's Exorcist in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in May 2023. Its story follows Gakuro, a kindhearted high school student who has always been able to see phantoms. At his school, he discovers a hidden room occupied by Nue, an unusual phantom with an interest in subculture. Their encounter draws him into battles against dangerous supernatural beings.

That premise combines an ordinary school setting with action, comedy, and a growing supernatural cast. Gakuro begins as someone who would rather avoid spirits and conflict, but Nue asks him to confront the threats roaming the school. The anime announcement frames that choice, and his desire to keep others from being hurt, as a central part of the adaptation.

The announcement also gives readers a substantial first look at how the manga will move to television. The teaser visual establishes the leads and school setting, while the promotional video introduces animated footage, and the Jump PRESS archive includes interviews with Miura and Onishi. Together with the named staff and lead cast, those materials establish the production team well ahead of the planned broadcast.

Nue's Exorcist is now scheduled to make its television debut in summer 2027, with TV Asahi carrying the Studio Hibari adaptation nationwide in Japan.
