Kaiju No. 8: Narumi's Week at Work Short Anime Reveals Visual and Fall 2026 Debut
Production I.G unveiled the main visual and fall 2026 premiere window for Kaiju No. 8: Narumi's Week at Work, an original short anime following Gen Narumi's chaotic off-duty life.

Production I.G has revealed the main visual and confirmed a fall 2026 debut for Kaiju No. 8: Narumi's Week at Work (Narumi no Heijitsu), an original short anime spinning off from the hit Kaiju No. 8 franchise. The announcement expands the series beyond its mainline television adaptation with a comedic spotlight on fan-favorite character Gen Narumi.
What the Short Is About
Narumi's Week at Work centers on Gen Narumi, widely recognized as Japan's strongest anti-kaiju combatant. Despite his fearsome reputation on the battlefield, Narumi's workweek tells a very different story. The official synopsis reveals that he routinely goes AWOL on meetings, adroitly shirks office work, and fills his downtime playing online games. Yet even someone as formidable as Narumi occasionally faces unexpected counterattacks during the daily grind. The short promises a lighthearted, slice-of-life look at a character audiences have only seen in high-stakes combat scenarios throughout the main series.
Staff and Production Details
Production I.G, which handled the mainline Kaiju No. 8 television anime, returns to animate the short. Shigeyuki Miya is directing, with Tetsuya Nishio serving as both character designer and chief animation director. The creative team also includes story conception by Kizuku Watanabe, art direction by Shinji Kimura, sound direction by Fumiyuki Go, 3D direction by Hayato Aragaki, music composition by Yuta Bando, and editing by Yuka Yamajo. Studio Khara, which previously designed the creatures for the main series, is once again handling kaiju designs for the spinoff.
Koki Uchiyama reprises his role as Gen Narumi, carrying over from the television anime where his energetic performance helped cement the character as a standout.
Where the Franchise Stands
The Kaiju No. 8 manga by Naoya Matsumoto originally serialized on Shonen Jump+ from July 2020 before concluding in July 2025, spanning 16 collected volumes. The mainline television anime aired 23 episodes across two seasons between April 2024 and September 2025, along with a special episode focused on Soshiro Hoshina. The short was announced alongside confirmation that the main series' final arc will also receive an anime adaptation, signaling that Production I.G and the franchise's stakeholders are committed to a multi-project rollout.
A cast reunion event is scheduled for October 24, 2026, at Tachikawa Stage Garden in Tokyo, which could serve as a platform for additional announcements around both the short and the final arc adaptation.
What to Expect This Fall
With the main visual now public and a fall 2026 window locked in, Narumi's Week at Work gives the Kaiju No. 8 franchise a comedic companion piece while fans await the final arc's adaptation. A precise premiere date and streaming platform have not yet been confirmed, but further details are expected in the coming months as the October cast event approaches.
