Based on Tsutomu Satou's light novel series that launched in 2008, The Irregular at Magic High School (Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei) first reached television screens in April 2014 with a 26-episode debut season. The franchise has steadily expanded since then, with the Visitor Arc arriving as a second season in October 2020 for 13 episodes, followed by a third season that premiered in April 2024. A theatrical film adapting the Yotsuba Succession Arc opened in Japanese cinemas on May 8, 2025.

The series also spawned a spinoff anime, The Honor Student at Magic High School, which ran for 13 episodes beginning in July 2021. That spinoff shifted the perspective to Miyuki Shiba, offering a fresh lens on events from the original story.

Satou's original light novel series concluded with its 32nd volume in September 2020, and two sequel series launched in October 2020 and January 2021 respectively. Yen Press handles the English-language releases of the novels. With such a deep well of source material much of it still unadapted Part II has no shortage of storylines to draw from.

Previous entries in the franchise have alternated between full television seasons and a theatrical film, so Part II could take any number of forms.
