EAT-MAN The Over Order Announces New Anime With Original Voice Star Returning

Akihito Yoshitomi's science fiction manga EAT-MAN is receiving a completely new anime project titled EAT-MAN The Over Order, announced in Japan on September 10. The reveal included a teaser video and visual, while Masashi Ebara was confirmed to return as the metal-eating adventurer Bolt Crank.

Returning cast and core team

Yoshitomi is directly involved in the new production as its scriptwriter and original design concept creator. He described it as the third anime adaptation of EAT-MAN and said that joining the project from the script stage gave him experience creating a story through a group process rather than alone as a manga artist.

Shunji Oga is directing the anime at Studio Cab. Oga said the production is placing the original manga's world into an original story for The Over Order, with Bolt's unspoken thoughts serving as an important key to the narrative. Satoshi Hirayama is handling the character designs, and his stated approach centers on retaining the manga's delicate lines while making those designs practical for animators.

The staff announcement also highlighted Oga's work on Golgo 13 and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, and Hirayama's contributions to the Lupin the Third franchise. Studio Cab is led by Oga, connecting his director role to the company handling animation production. Together with Yoshitomi's scripting and Ebara's casting, those credits establish the project's current creative leadership.

Ebara's return provides the clearest bridge to the earlier EAT-MAN adaptations. He previously voiced Bolt in the franchise's anime productions and expressed happiness at encountering the character again after three decades. No other cast members were named in the initial announcement.

What the teaser establishes

The teaser shows newly produced animation built around Bolt's signature ability. It begins with him picking up a screw in a wasteland, moves to the character eating metal, and ends with a large weapon taking form. Yoshitomi also drew the accompanying teaser visual, which places Bolt with a large weapon amid machinery and distant structures in a setting that combines decay with signs of advanced civilization.

That imagery matches the official story outline. Bolt is an enigmatic adventurer who consumes metal and can recreate weapons. He travels from place to place taking jobs while keeping his past and purpose private. The new story will follow the incidents, meetings, separations, lost memories, and hidden truths he encounters during those journeys.

EAT-MAN previously received two anime adaptations, making The Over Order its third. The returning lead actor and Yoshitomi's expanded production role continue the franchise's creative history, while its original story gives the staff room to build a distinct entry around Bolt.

The announcement did not set a premiere date, broadcast window, or streaming platform. For now, the confirmed package consists of the new anime project, its lead actor and core staff, the teaser visual, and the first footage from the production now in development.
