Dragon Ball Super is officially coming back to television with a new anime adapting the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc, featuring the villain Moro, alongside a remastered edition titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus.

Dragon Ball Super is returning to television for the first time since the original anime ended in March 2018. Toei Animation confirmed a new anime titled Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event held on January 24, 2026, a celebration marking the franchise's 40th anniversary. The announcement set off one of the largest waves of excitement in the anime community this year, reviving a property that has remained one of the most recognized anime brands worldwide even during its eight-year absence from weekly broadcast.
The new anime adapts the Galactic Patrol Prisoner saga from the Dragon Ball Super manga, which was written by Akira Toriyama and illustrated by Toyotarou. The story continues directly after the Universe Survival Arc, the point where the previous anime concluded, meaning fans will finally see the manga's subsequent storylines brought to screen.
The narrative centers on Goku and Vegeta teaming up with the Galactic Patrol, the galaxy's peacekeeping force, to confront a new antagonist known as Planet-Eater Moro. Unlike many previous Dragon Ball villains who simply overwhelmed heroes with brute strength, Moro is an ancient wizard who drains the life force from entire planets and their inhabitants to fuel his own power. This fundamentally different threat forces Goku and Vegeta to develop entirely new techniques and strategies rather than simply powering up to a new transformation level.
The arc spans multiple volumes of the manga and introduces several new characters through the Galactic Patrol organization. It also gives Vegeta his own distinct character growth and power-up path separate from Goku's for the first time in the Super era, which has been a long-standing request from fans of the character.
Alongside the Galactic Patrol announcement, a second project was revealed for fall 2026. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is a comprehensive enhanced remaster of the original Dragon Ball Super anime series. The project goes well beyond a simple upscale, featuring extensive new animated cuts and revised scenes, a complete re-rendering of all existing footage using modern production technology, newly recorded voice performances across the cast, and fully reconstructed sound design and musical score.
The original Dragon Ball Super anime was frequently criticized for inconsistent and sometimes noticeably rough animation quality, particularly during the Battle of Gods and Resurrection F arcs in its early run. The Beerus remaster directly addresses those longstanding complaints by applying current-generation production standards to the entire series from the beginning.
The gap between March 2018 and the Galactic Patrol premiere represents the longest period without a mainline Dragon Ball television anime since the franchise began in 1986. Dragon Ball Daima, which aired in 2024 and 2025, was a side story set in a distinct continuity rather than a direct sequel to Super.
No specific premiere date has been announced for The Galactic Patrol anime beyond the confirmation itself. Academy Award-winning composer Hans Zimmer contributed music to the announcement video at the Genkidamatsuri event, signaling the scale of ambition behind the project's presentation.
For Indian fans, Dragon Ball has maintained strong cultural visibility for decades through Hindi dubs on Cartoon Network and more recently through streaming platforms. The franchise holds deep generational appeal in India, and the return of Dragon Ball Super in any form represents a major event for a market where Goku remains one of the most recognized characters in all of animation.
