Cowboy Bebop: The Movie 4K Remaster Returns to Japanese Theaters October 30

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie will return to cinemas across Japan on October 30, 2026, in a new 4K remaster supervised by director Shinichiro Watanabe. The anniversary rerelease was announced on September 1, exactly 25 years after the film's Japanese theatrical debut, alongside a newly created commemorative visual.

The 4K remaster and theater plan

The announcement identifies Watanabe's complete supervision as a central part of the remaster. As director of the original feature, he has overseen the new theatrical presentation. The release is being described as a special theatrical screening for audiences across the country rather than a standard new run.

A theater list published with the announcement shows the rerelease reaching multiple regions of Japan. Tokyo venues include TOHO Cinemas Hibiya, Shinjuku, and Ikebukuro, while Osaka listings include TOHO Cinemas Umeda and Namba and 109 Cinemas Minoh. Other named locations span areas such as Miyagi, Kanagawa, Aichi, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Kumamoto, and Kagoshima. The schedule notes that participating cinemas can change, so the final local lineup may still be adjusted before opening day.

The published lineup stretches from TOHO Cinemas Oirase Shimoda in Aomori to Cinema Rycom in Okinawa. It also names theaters in prefectures including Akita, Iwate, Yamagata, Fukushima, Chiba, Saitama, Ibaraki, Tochigi, Yamanashi, Niigata, Nagano, Shizuoka, Mie, Fukui, Hyogo, Nara, Okayama, Tottori, Shimane, Oita, and Miyazaki. Moviegoers will need to confirm the latest schedule with individual cinemas.

Admission bonuses are also planned, but their contents have not yet been revealed. That leaves the October 30 opening date and the announced cinema list as the firm planning details for now. The official anniversary site is set to carry later information about the visitor benefit.

A new visual for the film's 25th anniversary

The newly unveiled visual was assembled specifically for the anniversary rather than repurposed from older promotional art. Character designer and animation director Toshihiro Kawamoto drew the featured illustration. Art director Atsushi Morikawa created its background, and main-title designer Toshiaki Uesugi of Mach 55 handled the design. A new anniversary logo completes the piece.

Merchandise using the visual is in development, although products and release details have not been announced. The combination of a fresh image and a cinema return gives the campaign two clear parts: a celebration of the movie's production identity and a new opportunity to see the feature on a theatrical screen.

Watanabe also issued a message for the occasion. He asked viewers to receive the passion and spirit poured into the film in the darkness of a movie theater. His involvement connects the technical remaster directly to the anniversary presentation instead of leaving it as a purely promotional label.

The rerelease marks 25 years since Cowboy Bebop: The Movie opened in Japan on September 1, 2001. The next confirmed milestone is the nationwide 4K screening launch on October 30, when the remastered version begins its special cinema engagement across Japan.
