Madoka Magica: Walpurgisnacht Rising Sets January 2027 U.S. Theatrical Run
Walpurgisnacht: Rising will screen in U.S. theaters from January 16 through 19, 2027, in subtitled and English-dubbed formats.

Aniplex of America and Fathom Entertainment announced on October 8 at New York Comic Con that Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising will play exclusively in U.S. theaters from January 16 through January 19, 2027. The engagement will offer both Japanese-language screenings with English subtitles and English-dubbed screenings.
What U.S. audiences can expect
The January dates are a limited theatrical engagement distributed by Fathom Entertainment. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale online on December 11, 2026, with sales also planned through participating theater box offices. The official announcement notes that theater locations may change, so the December ticket launch should provide the first practical look at local availability and showtimes.
Aniplex of America also unveiled a U.S.-exclusive visual by artist Namie for the announcement. The image brings together Madoka, Homura, Mami, Sayaka, Kyoko, and Nagisa, connecting the domestic campaign directly to the film's returning magical-girl ensemble.
Walpurgisnacht: Rising is positioned as the next chapter in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica film story. The production brings back key creators associated with the series, including director Akiyuki Shimboh, writer Gen Urobuchi, and character designer aokiume. SHAFT is handling animation production, Gekidan InuCurry is credited with the parallel-world design, and Yuki Kajiura is composing the music. The official announcement credits the same principal creative roles associated with the earlier television and film installments.
Fathom's release notice describes the movie as continuing the lives of its heroines in a setting where ordinary girls and magical girls coexist. It does not provide a fuller U.S. story synopsis, keeping major plot details outside this date announcement.
How the earlier films fit in
The new film follows the three existing Madoka Magica movies: Part 1: Beginnings, Part 2: Eternal, and Rebellion. Beginnings and Eternal retell the television series in a two-film format, while Rebellion continues the story beyond that retelling and provides the immediate lead-in to Walpurgisnacht: Rising. The first two movies arrived in 2012, followed by Rebellion in 2013.
Aniplex of America paired the theatrical announcement with new ways to revisit that trilogy. The three movies are scheduled to begin streaming on Crunchyroll on November 8 and Netflix on January 2. Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese dubbed versions are planned from November 15.
A 4K Ultra HD trilogy set is scheduled for October 20, with Dolby Atmos audio and exclusive package artwork by character designer Junichiro Taniguchi. Listed at a standard retail price of $149.98, it is a North American 4K Ultra HD release of the trilogy.
These releases give viewers several paths to catch up before the U.S. theatrical window. They also keep the older films separate from the new movie: the streaming and home-video dates apply to Beginnings, Eternal, and Rebellion, not to Walpurgisnacht: Rising.
The next confirmed milestone is December 11, when ticket sales are due to open ahead of the January 16 through 19 theatrical engagement.
