Shueisha Launches Manga Million: 400 Titles Free in 100+ Languages for 100th Anniversary

Shueisha announced the launch of Manga Million on August 6, a free digital manga platform offering roughly 400 titles in more than 100 languages. The initiative commemorates the publisher's 100th anniversary and represents one of the largest global manga distribution efforts to date.

A Massive Library From Day One

Manga Million arrives with over one million translated manga pages spanning approximately 400 titles. The lineup features some of the medium's most iconic series, including One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, SPY x FAMILY, Chainsaw Man, Haikyu!!, and Oshi no Ko. The platform also makes a notable push for shojo manga, with more than 150 shojo titles available at launch, including classics like NANA and Kimi ni Todoke.

One Piece volumes 1 through 12 are available in 102 languages from day one, making it one of the most widely translated manga releases in history. Content will continue to roll out volume-by-volume across all featured series.

Breaking Down Language Barriers

The scope of Manga Million's translation effort is staggering. Nearly 300 of the 400 available titles are receiving translations for the first time ever, while roughly 50 titles are being released in multiple new languages simultaneously. Supported languages at launch include English, Chinese, Hindi, Arabic, Spanish, French, Turkish, Tagalog, Korean, and Polish, among many others.

Shuhei Hosono, a Shueisha executive, stated that the platform aims to "address the language barriers that still prevent many readers around the world from accessing manga." Notably, AI translation was not used for the project. Instead, international licensing partners from around the world provided translation support, ensuring human-quality localization across the full catalog.

Shueisha President Hideaki Hayashi framed the initiative in broader terms, stating the company's goal is to "create new connections with readers worldwide" and "inspire future generations of manga creators."

Free Access With No Registration

Manga Million is free to use and requires no account registration, removing one of the most common friction points for digital manga platforms. The free access period extends through the end of 2027, giving readers well over a year to explore the catalog at no cost. Shueisha has not yet determined when or how paid access will be introduced after that window closes.

The platform's no-barrier approach signals a shift in how major publishers view global manga distribution. Rather than restricting access behind paywalls or region locks, Shueisha is betting that wide free availability - particularly in underserved language markets - will expand the overall readership base and build demand for future paid offerings.

What This Means for Global Manga

Manga Million is arguably the most ambitious digital manga initiative a single publisher has undertaken. With nearly 300 titles translated for the first time and support for over 100 languages, Shueisha is directly targeting the vast population of potential manga readers who have never had access to officially translated content in their native language. The platform is available now, with new volumes set to be added on a rolling basis across all featured series.
