Kaiju No. 8: Narumi's Week at Work Reveals Trailer, Four-Episode Run Starting September 5
Production I.G unveiled the first trailer for Kaiju No. 8: Narumi's Week at Work, a four-episode short anime series premiering September 5 on TOHO Animation's YouTube channel and Crunchyroll.

The first trailer for Kaiju No. 8: Narumi's Week at Work has arrived, confirming a four-episode short anime series set to premiere on September 5. Production I.G is handling animation for the spinoff, which will stream weekly every Saturday on TOHO Animation's YouTube channel alongside a simultaneous release on Crunchyroll.
What the Trailer Shows
The newly released trailer puts the spotlight squarely on Gen Narumi, the First Division captain of the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force and widely recognized as the organization's strongest combatant. While Narumi's battlefield prowess is well established from the main Kaiju No. 8 anime, the short series takes a lighter approach, following him through the daily grind of captaining his division - including the office work he'd rather avoid.
The premise draws from material by Kizuku Watanabe, the creator behind the Kaiju No. 8: Relax spinoff manga, giving the project a comedic, slice-of-life angle that contrasts with the high-stakes kaiju battles of the main series.
Four Episodes, Four Perspectives
Each of the four episodes will explore a different facet of Narumi's life as division captain. The confirmed episode titles are:
"The Platoon Leader's True Feelings"
"The Vice Captain's Worries"
"That Guy From the West"
"The Bond Between Classmates"
New episodes will debut every Saturday at 8:00 p.m. JST, running from September 5 through September 26. The compact four-week schedule means the entire series will wrap before October, making it a brisk complement to the broader Kaiju No. 8 franchise.
Returning Staff and Cast
Production I.G brings back several key creatives from the main Kaiju No. 8 anime. Mahiro Maeda returns in a design role, while composer Yuta Bando is once again scoring the music. Additional returning staff reportedly includes art director Shinji Kimura, color designer Izumi Hirose, sound director Fumiyuki Go, 3D director Hayato Aragaki, and editor Yuka Yamajo.
On the voice acting side, Koki Uchiyama reprises his role as Gen Narumi, anchoring the cast for the character-driven spinoff. Studio Khara is reportedly contributing creature designs, maintaining visual continuity with the kaiju aesthetic fans expect from the franchise.
Where to Watch
All four episodes will be freely available on TOHO Animation's official YouTube channel at the time of their Japanese premiere. For viewers outside Japan, Crunchyroll will stream the series simultaneously, making the short widely accessible from day one. The dual-platform approach mirrors the distribution strategy TOHO Animation has used for previous short-form anime projects on its channel.
The short anime arrives as the Kaiju No. 8 franchise continues to expand. The main anime adaptation, also produced by Production I.G, has built a sizable global audience through its Crunchyroll run, and the spinoff represents an opportunity to flesh out one of the series' most popular characters in a more relaxed setting. With Narumi's charisma and combat record already well-loved by fans, the four-episode format offers a focused character study without the weight of a full-season commitment.
