Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal Reveals Lead Cast and 2027 Screening Plans
Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal has cast Ivan Shibata and Hibiku Yamamura as its leads ahead of advance screenings beginning in January 2027.

Sunrise revealed the main cast and production team for Code Geass: Star Chaser Aspal on November 5, naming Ivan Shibata as Aspal and Hibiku Yamamura as Zoé. The new Code Geass anime is set for event screenings in Japan during 2027, with advance previews scheduled to begin in January.
Who is making and starring in Star Chaser Aspal
Shibata leads the cast as Aspal, a slave boy living in Neapolis, the capital of the Roman Empire. Yamamura voices Zoé, a mysterious woman whose unusual condition leaves her alive as only a head. Their meeting is the central point of the newly released introduction, which presents the pair as the starting point for a fresh story within the long-running franchise.
Kazuya Nomura is directing the project, with Mado Nozaki handling series composition. Rolua is responsible for character designs, while Yoshi. is credited with designing the Agalmata machines. Sunrise holds the original work and planning credits. Ichiro Okouchi and Goro Taniguchi, both closely associated with Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, are credited with the original story concept.
The revealed team establishes a mix of returning franchise architects and creators taking on the new setting and cast. The official presentation also centers Aspal and Zoé rather than characters from earlier entries, making their relationship the clearest starting point for understanding this installment. A main visual and preview images accompanied the new cast, staff and story information.
In a staff comment, Nomura said the production has explored the question of what happiness means through Aspal and his turbulent journey. Nozaki described creating the anime's new world as an adventure. Their comments connect the creative process to both Aspal's personal path and the construction of the setting around him.
What the story and screening plan confirm
Star Chaser Aspal takes place in the year 606 of the Divine Era. Citizens of the Roman Empire are suffering under Emperor Phokas, whose oppressive rule is compounded by continuing wars with neighboring countries. Aspal lives in the imperial city of Neapolis before his encounter with Zoé opens the story. That premise places the anime in a conflict shaped by imperial power, war and the mystery surrounding its two leads.
The project will begin event screenings in 2027. Before that broader rollout, advance preview screenings are scheduled to start in January 2027. The currently announced material does not give exact dates or venues, so January remains the next confirmed window for audiences to see the new anime.
The screening format distinguishes this launch from a conventional television premiere announcement. It also means the first public presentation will arrive through planned theatrical events, while the production team continues to frame the project around its new period, location and protagonists.
For now, the confirmed next milestone is the start of advance screenings in January 2027, followed by the wider event-screening schedule later that year.
