Veteran voice actor Tomokazu Seki will portray legendary swordsmith Kunishige Rokuhira in the upcoming Kagurabachi anime, which premieres in April 2027.

Veteran voice actor Tomokazu Seki has been cast as Kunishige Rokuhira, protagonist Chihiro's father, in the upcoming Kagurabachi anime. The announcement arrived alongside a new character visual and trailer for the Cypic-produced adaptation of Takeru Hokazono's hit Weekly Shonen Jump manga, which is set to premiere in April 2027.
Kunishige Rokuhira is a central figure in the Kagurabachi narrative. Renowned throughout the story's world as a legendary swordsmith, he is equally defined by his role as a warmhearted father to Chihiro. The duality of the character a master craftsman carrying the weight of his convictions while maintaining a humorous, everyday demeanor at home makes his portrayal pivotal to the series' emotional core.
Seki commented on the role, noting that he aimed to convey "the charm of both of those sides naturally," balancing Kunishige's lighter personality with the gravity of his identity as a swordsmith. Fans of Seki's extensive career will recognize him from iconic roles spanning decades of anime, and his casting signals a strong commitment from the production team to anchor the show's emotional backbone with experienced talent.
Seki joins Taihi Kimura, who was previously revealed as the voice of protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira. The anime is directed by Tetsuya Takeuchi, known for his acclaimed work on the Rock Lee versus Gaara fight sequence in Naruto, with character designs by Keigo Sasaki. Studio Cypic handles animation production, with Shochiku and CyberAgent serving on the production committee.
The first teaser trailer for the series exceeded six million views within 24 hours of its release, underscoring the massive anticipation surrounding the adaptation. Hokazono's manga, which has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since September 2023, follows young Chihiro as he trains under his famous swordsmith father until tragedy strikes when a mysterious sorcerer organization called the Hishaku attacks, setting Chihiro on a path of revenge.
Before the full premiere in April 2027, the Kagurabachi anime will embark on a promotional world tour beginning in July 2026. The first stop is Anime Expo in Los Angeles, followed by appearances at Japan Expo in Paris and ANImagic in Mannheim. An August stop at Anime NYC rounds out the international circuit. Each event will screen the first 20 minutes of episode one, giving attendees an early look at the adaptation before the complete first episode debuts in Japan the following spring.
Viz Media and Shueisha's MANGA Plus platform currently release the Kagurabachi manga digitally in English for readers looking to get ahead of the anime. With Seki's casting now confirmed and a global promotional push on the horizon, the April 2027 premiere is shaping up as one of the most anticipated anime launches of the year.
