Girls Band Cry The Movie will open in Japanese theaters nationwide on May 21, 2027. The date was announced on November 3 alongside a teaser trailer and a new visual for the fully original film, which continues the story of Toei Animation's 2024 television series and brings back its principal cast and production staff.

The teaser points toward a nationwide tour

The new footage begins with Nina Iseri rallying Togenashi Togeari for a nationwide tour. It shows the five bandmates traveling, performing, clashing with one another, and continuing to confront the frustrations around them through their music. The preview frames the movie as a larger new chapter rather than a compilation of the television story. A runtime and detailed Japanese theater list have not yet been announced.

Character designer Nari Teshima drew the teaser visual, which places Nina, Momoka Kawaragi, Subaru Awa, Tomo Ebizuka, and Rupa together. Its presentation retains the emotional mix of anger, joy, and sadness that has defined the project. The film's official site also identifies the production as a completely new theatrical work.

The original 13-episode series aired in 2024. Its story followed high school dropout Nina after she moved to Tokyo and formed Togenashi Togeari with Momoka, Subaru, Tomo, and Rupa. The group endured personal disagreements and professional setbacks while trying to build a future on its own terms. The movie now shifts that struggle to a theatrical story built around the band's next stretch of activity.

The first round of MovieTicket advance cards will go on sale online on November 6 at 6 p.m. Japan time. They are priced at 1,900 yen and include a miniature acrylic stand based on the teaser visual while supplies last. Movie Walker Store and Animate will handle the limited online sale.

The central cast and creative team return

Rina returns as Nina, with Yuri as Momoka, Mirei as Subaru, Natsu as Tomo, and Shuri as Rupa. The announced supporting lineup also brings back Reina Kondo as Hina, Misato Matsuoka as Nana, Yuki Urushiyama as Rin, and Momoko Miyashiro as Ai. Together, those names cover both Togenashi Togeari and the members of rival group Diamond Dust who appeared in the series.

Kazuo Sakai, the television series director, is credited as the movie's director. Jukki Hanada returns to write the screenplay, while Kenji Tamai serves as music producer and Yusuke Tanaka handles the score. Teshima remains character designer, and Jae Hoon Jung and Daiki Nakazawa are credited as CG directors. Toei will distribute the film, with Toei Animation credited for the original work.

The returning lineup makes the movie a direct continuation in both performance and production terms. It also preserves the unusual connection between the anime and the real Togenashi Togeari band, whose five core performers voice their corresponding characters. The band is also scheduled to hold a solo concert at K Arena Yokohama in 2027, placing a major live event in the same year as the movie.

The May 21 premiere is currently the next confirmed theatrical milestone. Before then, the first advance-ticket release on November 6 will put the newly revealed visual into fans' hands as the film begins its road to Japanese cinemas.
