The Detective Is Already Dead Season 2 reveals a new trailer introducing a Siesta lookalike named Noches, while delaying its broadcast from July to October 2026.

The Detective Is Already Dead has released the first promotional trailer for its second anime season, alongside an October 2026 premiere window that pushes the show three months back from its previously announced July 2026 slot. The reveal came on April 5, 2026, paired with new key visuals and the reveal of a Nintendo Switch game tied to the franchise's fifth anniversary.
The 90 second promo introduces a new character named Noches, designed to look identical to the supposedly deceased Siesta. Noches wears a maid outfit and appears alongside Kimihiko Kimizuka in several scenes, with voice actress Saki Miyashita performing both Siesta and Noches in a deliberate doubled casting decision. The implication that a Siesta lookalike has surfaced is the strongest hint the production has given about how the second season will continue the central mystery left dangling at the end of the first season's run.
The schedule shift was confirmed in March 2026, when the production cited unspecified production issues for the delay. The original July 2026 broadcast window had been announced in November 2025 and is now formally replaced by the October slot. ENGI continues to handle animation production, and director Manabu Kurihara returns from the first season, with Deko Akao on series scripts and Yosuke Ito handling character design.
Voice actor Arata Nagai returns as protagonist Kimihiko Kimizuka, with Saki Miyashita reprising her role as Siesta and now adding Noches to her credits. Ayana Taketatsu, Kanon Takao, and Saho Shirasu return as Nagisa Natsunagi, Yui Saikawa, and Charlotte Arisaka Anderson respectively. The full first season ensemble is intact, an unusual continuity for a sequel arriving more than two years after the original run.
Taito Game has been tapped to develop the franchise's first console title for the Nintendo Switch, timed to the original light novel series' fifth anniversary. The publisher has not provided a release date, gameplay mechanics, or genre information beyond confirming the project is in development. Author Nigozyu, whose light novels Kadokawa publishes under MF Bunko J, is involved in the planning stages.
October 2026 places the second season in the autumn anime cycle, where it will compete with returning heavyweight titles for viewer attention. The delay also gives the production additional buffer for the long form mystery the second season is set to adapt, which spans multiple light novel volumes and threads several callbacks to the first season's reveal that Siesta has died long before Kimihiko's narration begins.
Crunchyroll holds the global streaming rights and will simulcast the season worldwide when it premieres later this year, including in India.
