Norio Sakurai's The Dangers in My Heart confirmed its ending with the release of Chapter 196, revealing that the beloved romantic comedy manga has only three chapters remaining before its conclusion.

A Journey From Weekly Shōnen Champion to the Finish Line

The Dangers in My Heart launched in March 2018 in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine before moving to the publisher's Champion Cross website just one month later in April 2018. The series eventually migrated to the Manga Cross platform, where it has continued serialization. Over the course of its run, the manga has followed Ichikawa Kyotaro - a socially awkward middle schooler who secretly fancies himself the protagonist of a dark psychological thriller - as he navigates an unexpectedly sweet relationship with his classmate Anna Yamada.

The series had previously announced that it would conclude with its 14th compiled volume. With Chapter 196 now confirming just three installments remain, the end is imminent. The 13th volume was published on January 8 in Japan, and the final 14th volume is scheduled for release on November 6. Seven Seas Entertainment holds the English license for the manga, with the 12th English volume having been published on February 24.

A Franchise That Keeps Growing

Despite the mainline manga approaching its finale, the broader Dangers in My Heart franchise remains very much alive. The series has already spawned two successful anime seasons - the first premiered in April 2023, and the second followed in January 2024 - both of which earned strong reception from fans for their faithful adaptation of Sakurai's character-driven storytelling. A compilation film has also been released in theaters.

Most notably for fans processing the manga's ending, a third anime season has been confirmed for 2027. This means that even as the source material wraps up, the animated adaptation still has significant ground to cover. The announcement provides reassurance that the franchise will continue to have a presence well beyond the manga's final chapter.

The series has also expanded through other formats. A light novel adaptation was released in September 2024, and the Twi-Yaba spinoff manga received its own anime adaptation that premiered in December 2023. A new spinoff manga launched as recently as July 2025, further demonstrating Akita Shoten's commitment to the property.

What the Finale Means for Fans

The Dangers in My Heart carved out a distinctive niche in the romance manga landscape by grounding its central relationship in genuinely awkward, understated character moments rather than relying on dramatic misunderstandings or overwrought love triangles. Sakurai's decision to bring the story to a planned conclusion with its 14th volume suggests a deliberate creative choice rather than a premature cancellation - a positive sign for readers hoping for a satisfying ending.

With only three chapters left, the serialization should reach its conclusion within the coming weeks on the Manga Cross platform. Readers following the English release through Seven Seas Entertainment can expect the final volume to arrive sometime after the Japanese November 6 release date. Meanwhile, the confirmed third anime season in 2027 ensures that Kyotaro and Yamada's story will continue to reach new audiences even after the manga closes its final chapter.
