Dandelion, the anime adaptation of Gintama creator Hideaki Sorachi's debut manga about guiding restless spirits to the afterlife, premieres globally on Netflix on April 16 with seven episodes.

Dandelion, an anime adaptation of Hideaki Sorachi's debut manga, will premiere globally on Netflix on April 16, 2026. The seven-episode series marks the first anime project based on Sorachi's work since Gintama's final season concluded, bringing his signature blend of humor and emotional depth to a completely different genre and setting.
The series follows Tetsuo Tanba and Misaki Kurogane, two employees of the Japanese Angel Federation's Send-Off Department. Their unusual occupation involves tracking down earthbound spirits who remain tethered to the living world because of unresolved regrets and lingering attachments. Rather than forcibly exorcising these spirits or using combat techniques, Tanba and Kurogane take a deeply personal approach. They listen to the souls' final wishes, help them process their regrets, and gently guide them toward the afterlife once they find peace.
Sorachi originally published Dandelion as a one-shot manga before his career-defining run on Gintama, which became one of the longest-running and most beloved comedy series in Weekly Shonen Jump's history. The manga's blend of supernatural drama, understated comedy, and genuine emotional weight showcases the storytelling instincts that would later define his most famous work, albeit in a more contained and intimate format.
Chikahiro Kobayashi voices protagonist Tetsuo Tanba, while Megumi Han plays his partner Misaki Kurogane. Director Daisuke Mataga leads the production, with series composition by Yosuke Suzuki. Character designer Ai Asari translates Sorachi's distinctive art style into animation, and music composer Yuki Hayashi provides the score. Animation production is handled by studio NAZ.
Hayashi's involvement is a notable credit that signals the show's tonal ambitions. He is best known for scoring My Hero Academia, Haikyuu!!, and other high-energy shonen titles, suggesting a musically dynamic approach that elevates the series beyond what its contemplative premise might suggest on paper.
All seven episodes will be available simultaneously on Netflix worldwide starting April 16. The global premiere model means Indian Netflix subscribers will have access on the same day as every other region, with no staggered release window. The compact seven-episode format positions Dandelion as a digestible single-season experience rather than an ongoing weekly commitment.
For viewers familiar with Gintama's sprawling 367-episode run and multiple films, Dandelion offers something distinctly different. The series trades Gintama's episodic comedy structure and Edo-period setting for a focused supernatural narrative rooted in empathy, grief, and the small acts of kindness that help people move forward. It premieres one week from today on Netflix.
