YAIBA: Samurai Legend Season 2 Premieres January 9, 2027

YAIBA: Samurai Legend Season 2 will begin its Kaguya Arc on January 9, 2027, at 5:30 p.m. JST. The anime is scheduled to air on Yomiuri TV and the Nippon TV network across Japan, excluding some areas, and the date announcement arrived with a new main visual.

What the new visual sets up

The main visual places Yaiba Kurogane and his rival Takeshi Onimaru at the center of the next conflict, with the Ryujin Sword and Fujin Sword meeting between them. Kaguya's presence signals the move beyond their established rivalry into a threat connected to the moon. Sayaka Mine is also caught in that danger, giving Yaiba a personal reason to face the new enemy.

The official character material describes Kaguya as the ruler of the moon, newly awakened after a thousand-year sleep and intent on extending her rule to Earth. She fights with a fan and possesses enough power to overwhelm both Yaiba and Onimaru. Her attendant Tsukikage commands her forces and works to gather young women for Kaguya, which places the season's central threat on a much wider scale than a single duel.

Onimaru is presented as a national kendo champion and Yaiba's destined rival, so their shared place in the visual keeps that competition central even as Kaguya changes the scale of the story. The composition frames the coming conflict around all three characters and the powers they bring to it.

That setup also gives the Kaguya Arc a clear continuation point. Yaiba began the story as a jungle-trained swordsman pursuing his idea of a true samurai. His clashes with Onimaru awakened the Raijin Sword and Fujin Sword, two supernatural blades tied to their escalating search for strength. Season 2 now brings those powers into a confrontation with Kaguya and her lunar forces.

Returning cast and production team

Minami Takayama remains the voice of Yaiba, while Yoshimasa Hosoya plays Onimaru and Manaka Iwami plays Sayaka. Ami Koshimizu voices Kaguya, and Koki Uchiyama voices Tsukikage. The cast lineup keeps the principal characters from the earlier story in place while putting the two lunar antagonists at the center of the new arc.

Takahiro Hasui directs the television anime, with Toko Machida handling series composition. Yoshimichi Kameda serves as character designer and chief animation director, while Yutaka Yamada and Yoshiaki Dewa provide the music. WIT Studio remains responsible for animation production, with Studio Kurm credited for animation production assistance.

The anime adapts Gosho Aoyama's YAIBA manga, published by Shogakukan. Its premise follows Yaiba after his return to Japan, where his meeting with Onimaru leads to repeated clashes and the revival of the two ancient swords. The Kaguya Arc builds directly on that supernatural side of the adventure by introducing a ruler from the moon and the forces serving her.

The next confirmed milestone is the Japanese television premiere on Saturday, January 9, at 5:30 p.m. JST, when the Kaguya Arc officially begins.
