Tank Chair Casts Megumi Ogata as Sensei in New Main Trailer

Tank Chair announced on September 17 that Megumi Ogata will voice Sensei, the previously undisclosed performer behind one of the TV anime's key characters. The casting was revealed alongside the show's second main promotional video, which features Sensei's voice before the series begins broadcasting in Japan on October 4.

What the second main trailer reveals

Sensei is presented as an absolute ruler with immense power and an intimidating presence. The character holds an important place in the story, and the new video gives viewers their first opportunity to hear Ogata's performance in the role. It also shifts attention toward the confrontation awaiting siblings Nagi and Shizuka Taira.

The trailer follows the pair as they prepare to stand against Sensei, framing their decision as a significant point in their journey. Its footage connects the new voice reveal to the central conflict instead of treating the casting as a separate announcement. That gives Sensei a defined position in the anime's developing story before the premiere.

Tank Chair adapts Manabu Yashiro's manga, which is serialized in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius. The story follows Nagi, a feared assassin who entered a coma after protecting his younger sister, Shizuka. His condition links his recovery to being targeted with killing intent, sending the siblings into dangerous encounters with powerful opponents.

Ogata describes an unusual recording challenge

In her official comment, Ogata said this was the first time she had played a role like Sensei. She recalled reaching the studio audition after an initial recorded audition and being asked to discard the deeper character work she had already done. The direction instead called for speech that was difficult to understand and used punctuation in an intentionally irregular way.

Ogata said the request was challenging enough that she believed she had failed the audition, making the eventual acceptance unexpected. She also described the production's complete pre-scoring process as a first for her in a television series. In pre-scoring, the cast records dialogue before the finished animation, allowing performances to help shape the later visual work.

She credited the directors, sound director, and original creator with providing careful explanations during recording. Ogata also said the performers recorded while connecting with one another's atmosphere, offering a small look at how the cast approached the production's unusual material.

Ogata is additionally scheduled to attend the advance screening and talk event at HUMAX Cinemas Ikebukuro in Tokyo on September 24. The event will screen the first two episodes and include cast members Koki Uchiyama and Minori Fujidera, along with directors Tadahiro Yoshihira and Hiroaki Ando. Tickets were already sold out when the casting announcement was published.

The September 24 screening is the next confirmed public milestone, followed by Tank Chair's Japanese broadcast premiere on October 4.
