The Suikoden II anime adaptation unveiled its second trailer featuring amazarashi's opening theme, three new cast members, and a 60-minute premiere episode set for October 2026.

The anime adaptation of Suikoden II has released its second promotional video, revealing amazarashi as the opening theme artist, three additional cast members, and a special 60-minute first episode premiering in October 2026. Theatrical preview screenings begin August 21.
Japanese rock band amazarashi will perform the series' opening theme, titled "Kanashimi Sae Otonobite" roughly translating to "Even in Sadness I'll Look Like an Adult." The track features prominently in the new trailer, setting a fittingly somber tone for the war-torn narrative of the Suikoden II story. The band is known for emotionally charged rock compositions that have previously accompanied anime series and major media projects.
The second trailer also confirmed three additional voice actors joining the already sizable cast. Miyuki Sawashiro, a veteran performer recognized for roles across decades of anime, will voice Anabelle, the Mayor of Muse City. Jin Yamanoi takes on the role of Agares Blight, the King of the Highland Kingdom, while Kodai Sakai voices Jess, the Deputy Mayor serving under Anabelle.
These additions round out a cast that already includes Toshiki Kumagai as protagonist Riliu, Shimba Tsuchiya as Jowy, Ayumi Hinohara as Nanami, Katsuyuki Konishi as Viktor, Yuichi Nakamura as Flik, Taku Yashiro as the fearsome Luca Blight, and Chika Anzai as Jillia Blight. The breadth of the ensemble reflects the sprawling scope of the original game's politically layered story.
The series will launch in October 2026 with a special extended 60-minute first episode, giving the adaptation room to establish its world and characters from the outset. Broadcasting is confirmed across Tokyo MX, Kansai TV, BS Asahi, and over 29 additional Japanese channels.
Before the television premiere, the first three episodes will screen theatrically at 10 theaters across Japan for a two-week run beginning August 21, 2026. These advance screenings should give fans an early look at the adaptation and build momentum heading into the fall broadcast.
KONAMI animation is handling production on the series, with Yuzo Sato directing and Michihiro Tsuchiya composing the series scripts. Ryo Yamauchi serves as character designer for the anime, while Koji Nakamura composes the music. Yoshikazu Iwanami is the sound director, and Ryo Hino of NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan is producing.
The anime adapts Suikoden II, originally released in 1998 for PlayStation and widely regarded as one of the greatest Japanese RPGs ever made. The game received an HD remaster in 2025, reigniting interest in the franchise and laying groundwork for this adaptation. A manga adaptation by Kochiya is also set to debut on July 27 in Comic Dengeki Daioh G volume 155, expanding the multimedia push around the property.
With a stacked voice cast, a celebrated source game, and amazarashi delivering the opening theme, the Suikoden anime is shaping up as one of the more ambitious video game adaptations on the fall 2026 calendar. The theatrical screenings starting August 21 will provide the first public verdict before the full television run kicks off in October.
