The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5 will premiere in 2027 with director Hitoshi Haga and the full core staff returning at Kinema Citrus, as revealed at Anime Expo 2026.

The Rising of the Shield Hero will return for a fifth season in 2027. Kadokawa unveiled a teaser trailer and new key visual on July 6, with Crunchyroll also presenting both materials during its Anime Expo 2026 panel. Kinema Citrus continues as the animation studio with the full core production team intact.
Director Hitoshi Haga is back at the helm for Season 5, maintaining the creative continuity the franchise has built across its previous installments. Series composition duties once again fall to Keigo Koyanagi, who has shaped the adaptation's narrative structure through multiple seasons.
On the visual side, the character design team of Franziska van Wulfen, Masahiro Suwa, and Sana Komatsu all return. The trio has been responsible for translating Aneko Yusagi's original light novel character designs into animation across the series' run. The music team of Kevin Penkin, Alfredo Sirica, and Natalie Jeffreys is also confirmed to return, continuing the score that has become a defining element of the Shield Hero anime. Sound production will again be handled at Glovision, rounding out a production pipeline that remains largely unchanged from Season 4.
The decision to retain essentially the entire creative team signals Kinema Citrus and Kadokawa's commitment to consistency as the adaptation moves deeper into the source material. Multiple additional crew members - including the assistant director and cinematographer - are also returning from the previous season.
The teaser trailer offers a first look at Season 5's tone and animation quality, though specific plot details remain under wraps. Kadokawa released the trailer alongside a new key visual, both of which were subsequently showcased at the Crunchyroll Industry Panel during Anime Expo in Los Angeles. The visual features the returning cast, with Naofumi Iwatani and his party front and center.
The full voice cast from Season 4 is confirmed to reprise their roles, though individual cast members were not singled out in the initial announcement. Further casting details - particularly for any new characters Season 5 may introduce - are expected in follow-up announcements as the 2027 premiere window approaches.
Crunchyroll confirmed it will stream the fifth season, continuing its long-standing partnership with the franchise. The platform has been the primary international home for The Rising of the Shield Hero since its debut season in 2019, and all four previous seasons remain available on the service.
The Rising of the Shield Hero is based on Aneko Yusagi's isekai light novel series, which follows Naofumi Iwatani after he is summoned to another world as the Shield Hero - only to be betrayed and forced to survive on his own terms. The novels are published by Kadokawa under the MF Books imprint and have also been adapted into a manga series.
With a 2027 premiere confirmed and the full creative team locked in, Season 5 appears to be well into pre-production. Additional details on the exact premiere date and episode count are expected in the months ahead.
