The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 5 Confirmed for 2027 with Returning Staff at Kinema Citrus

The Rising of the Shield Hero will return for a fifth season in 2027. Kadokawa unveiled a teaser trailer and new key visual on July 6, with Crunchyroll also presenting both materials during its Anime Expo 2026 panel. Kinema Citrus continues as the animation studio with the full core production team intact.

Full Staff Lineup Returns

Director Hitoshi Haga is back at the helm for Season 5, maintaining the creative continuity the franchise has built across its previous installments. Series composition duties once again fall to Keigo Koyanagi, who has shaped the adaptation's narrative structure through multiple seasons.

On the visual side, the character design team of Franziska van Wulfen, Masahiro Suwa, and Sana Komatsu all return. The trio has been responsible for translating Aneko Yusagi's original light novel character designs into animation across the series' run. The music team of Kevin Penkin, Alfredo Sirica, and Natalie Jeffreys is also confirmed to return, continuing the score that has become a defining element of the Shield Hero anime. Sound production will again be handled at Glovision, rounding out a production pipeline that remains largely unchanged from Season 4.

The decision to retain essentially the entire creative team signals Kinema Citrus and Kadokawa's commitment to consistency as the adaptation moves deeper into the source material. Multiple additional crew members - including the assistant director and cinematographer - are also returning from the previous season.

The Rising of the Shield Hero is based on Aneko Yusagi's isekai light novel series, which follows Naofumi Iwatani after he is summoned to another world as the Shield Hero - only to be betrayed and forced to survive on his own terms. The novels are published by Kadokawa under the MF Books imprint and have also been adapted into a manga series.
