Now That We Draw Anime Sets January 2027 Premiere in First Trailer

Now That We Draw will begin airing in Japan in January 2027, with the anime's first full promotional video introducing aspiring manga artists Yuuki Uehara and Niina Miyamoto. The production also released individual character visuals for the two leads on September 24.

What the first trailer establishes

The preview puts Yuuki and Niina's shared ambition at the center of the romantic comedy. Yuuki loves two-dimensional characters and hopes to become a manga creator, but an editor dismisses his romantic comedy manuscript because its romance lacks realism. His disappointment deepens when Niina, an outgoing classmate, sees the work he had hoped to keep private.

That awkward encounter also reveals something Yuuki did not know: Niina wants to create manga too. She proposes that the pair enter a secret pretend relationship so they can gain material for their stories. The setup brings together two classmates with very different personalities and turns their attempt to improve as creators into the anime's central romance.

Cast and production team

Ayumu Murase voices Yuuki Uehara, while Sayumi Suzushiro plays Niina Miyamoto. The official character descriptions present Yuuki as introverted and sometimes negative but deeply passionate about what he loves. Niina is described as bright, energetic, and popular, with her own goal of becoming a manga artist. Their contrasting temperaments shape the story, but their creative aspirations give them common ground from the start.

Shunsuke Ishikawa is directing the television anime at ROLL2. Deko Akao is responsible for series composition and scripts, and Hiromi Nakagawa is handling character designs. The wider staff includes Momoka Izumi on sub-character design, Yurie Matsuura on color design, Arei Saiga as art director, Hayato Kifune as director of photography, and Mai Hasegawa as editor. Fumiyuki Go serves as sound director, Ryuta Nakahara handles sound effects, and Yoshiaki Miura is composing the music. Infinite is producing the project.

The anime adapts the manga written by Kyu Takahata and illustrated by Yuwji Kaba, which is serialized by Hakusensha in Young Animal. Its premise ties the creative process directly to the relationship between its leads: both want to make convincing manga, yet neither has the romantic experience their work seems to demand.
