Liar Game will return for a second television anime season. The production decision was announced on the series' official website on September 29, after the 26-episode first season concluded. Character designer Kei Tsuchiya also marked the news with a new celebratory illustration featuring the series' cast.

What the sequel announcement confirms

The announcement is a production green light rather than a full season reveal. It says Nao and Akiyama will advance to another stage of the Liar Game, where a new contest and another round of psychological maneuvering await them. The official description keeps the focus on the pair's search for the truth at the end of the dangerous game.

The accompanying illustration is the first new visual tied directly to the sequel decision. Tsuchiya served as character designer on the first season, making the artwork a direct connection between the completed adaptation and the newly approved continuation.

No release window, episode count, broadcast network, streaming platform, or season two staff and cast lineup has been announced. The production team has asked viewers to wait for further news, so the timing and shape of the sequel remain open.

Where the story stands

Liar Game follows college student Nao Kanzaki after she receives 100 million yen and a mysterious invitation. That package pulls her into a competition built around deception, strategy, and the theft of enormous sums of money. Nao's instinctive honesty leaves her at a severe disadvantage, leading her to seek help from Shinichi Akiyama, a recently released former swindler known for his insight and intelligence.

The first television anime adapted Shinobu Kaitani's psychological suspense manga across 26 episodes. The original manga ran in Weekly Young Jump from 2005 to 2015, while the television adaptation arrived as part of the work's 20th anniversary. Madhouse handled animation production for the first season, with Yuzo Sato as chief director, Asami Kawano as director, and Tatsuhiko Urahata overseeing series composition and scripts.

The anime is the latest screen version of Kaitani's manga. A live-action television drama premiered in 2007, followed by a live-action film in 2010, and a stage production was mounted in 2023. Season two now gives the franchise another animated chapter after the first adaptation brought its central mind games to television.

Saya Hitomi voiced Nao, while Takeo Otsuka played Akiyama. The first season's credited main cast also included Yo Taichi as Yuji Fukunaga and Natsuki Hanae as Norihiko Yokoya. Their participation in season two has not been formally detailed in the initial announcement.

The confirmed next step is that Nao and Akiyama's contest will continue in animation, with further production details still to be released.
