The match we've waited a decade for is finally on streaming. Does it live up to the hype, or did the movie format hurt the pacing?

Haikyuu!! has always been about the "game over" screen. The fear that one dropped ball ends the summer.
The Dumpster Battle (Karasuno vs. Nekoma) is the emotional peak of the series. Adapting this entire match into an 85-minute movie instead of a full season was a risky move by Production I.G.
Did it pay off? mostly, yes.
Let's start with the visuals. This is the best Haikyuu has ever looked. The final POV sequence—where we see the game through Kenma's tired eyes—is a directorial flex. You feel the exhaustion. You feel the sweat. It's immersive in a way TV anime usually can't manage.
Here is the downside. Because it's a movie, we lose some of the small character moments for the benchwarmers that made the manga so special. The game moves fast. Sometimes too fast. If you haven't watched the series in a while, you might struggle to keep up with the strategies.
Really, this is Kenma's movie. It's a study of a kid who plays volleyball because his friend asks him to, finally discovering the joy of the sport. His quiet realization at the end hits harder than any spike.
It's not perfect. A full season would have let the story breathe. But as a cinematic experience? It's electric. It reminds you why this is the king of sports anime.
