Bandai Namco Filmworks has announced it will unveil the next Gundam anime series at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The reveal takes place during the "GUNDAM Showcase 2026 - Unveil the Next Gundam" panel on July 23, running from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. PT in Room 6BCF.

What to Expect From the Panel

The hour-long presentation will feature special guests from Japan who will reveal the franchise's next anime project and discuss the broader direction of the Gundam franchise. Beyond the anime reveal itself, Bandai Namco Filmworks plans to share updates on upcoming projects and initiatives planned for both Japan and international markets, signaling the studio's commitment to expanding the franchise's global footprint.

The panel arrives at a busy time for the Gundam franchise, with the prequel film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM ZERO also in production. The SDCC reveal suggests the next anime project is a separate undertaking, making this one of the more significant announcements the franchise has lined up for 2026.

Worldwide Streaming for Those Not at SDCC

Fans unable to attend in person will still be able to catch the announcements. The official Gundam Channel International will air a dedicated broadcast covering the same reveals on July 24 at 3:00 a.m. JST. Notably, this will not be a live stream or recording of the SDCC panel itself but rather a standalone program produced specifically for the worldwide audience, ensuring equal coverage regardless of location.

This approach mirrors Bandai Namco Filmworks' recent strategy of treating international fans as a primary audience rather than an afterthought - a philosophy that has driven the franchise's growing presence outside Japan over the past several years.

Gundam Booth and Hands-On Activities

Beyond the panel, Bandai Namco Filmworks will operate a dedicated Gundam booth on the convention floor throughout SDCC, which runs July 23 through 26. The booth will showcase the upcoming game Gundam Rogue Orbit alongside displays related to the newly announced anime.

Free Gunpla building workshops will run during all four days of the convention, giving attendees the chance to assemble model kits and take them home. The hands-on sessions continue the franchise's long-running tradition of introducing new fans to the hobby side of Gundam at major conventions.

Exclusive Merchandise for Attendees

Panel attendees will receive a collection of exclusive items, including a promotional Gundam Rogue Orbit card, a mini poster, a t-shirt, an inflatable Beam Saber, a Gunpla workshop kit, and additional collectibles. Limited-edition novelty bags filled with Gundam merchandise will also be distributed, adding further incentive for fans to secure seats for the morning panel.

Looking Ahead

The GUNDAM Showcase 2026 panel represents one of the franchise's biggest stage appearances at an international convention in recent memory. With a new anime series, a prequel film in the pipeline, and a dedicated game on the horizon, Bandai Namco Filmworks is positioning Gundam for a significant expansion across multiple media. The July 23 panel and the follow-up Gundam Channel broadcast on July 24 will provide the first concrete details on what shape that next chapter takes.
