Science SARU's highly anticipated adaptation of Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell manga dropped its third promotional video on May 10, locking in a July 7, 2026 premiere. The series will stream worldwide on Amazon Prime Video and air on Japan's Ka-Anival!! anime block on Kansai TV and Fuji TV.
The new trailer offers the most detailed look yet at the series' narrative direction. Set in 2029, the story follows Motoko Kusanagi, a full-body cyborg leading an elite combat unit. After Ministry official Daisuke Aramaki recruits her squad, they form Public Security Section 9 dubbed the "Shell Squad" an offensive tactical unit specializing in cybercrime and international conspiracies. The trailer confirms the series will tackle the Puppet Master arc, one of the most iconic storylines from Shirow's original manga, introducing the enigmatic hacker who becomes central to Kusanagi's journey of self-discovery.
Action sequences showcased in the trailer highlight the beloved Tachikoma units the spider-like AI tanks that have become fan favorites across previous Ghost in the Shell adaptations. The visual approach leans into a more rugged, manga-inspired character design, setting this version apart from the polished aesthetic of previous animated takes on the franchise.
The series marks the directorial debut of Mokochan, with acclaimed novelist Toh Enjoe handling script supervision. Shūhei Handa serves as both character designer and chief animation director, having crafted designs for ten main characters including Kusanagi, Batou, and Togusa. Taisei Iwasaki leads the music direction alongside composers Ryō Konishi and Yuki Kanesaka.

Amazon Prime Video will stream the anime worldwide, excluding Russia and China, with Japan receiving exclusive early access on the platform.
