Bocchi the Rock! will return to Manga Time Kirara Max on June 18 after creator Aki Hamaji's six-month hiatus for physical health recovery.

Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara Max magazine confirmed on May 18 that Aki Hamaji's four-panel manga Bocchi the Rock! will resume serialization on June 18, ending a six-month hiatus the creator took to recover from a physical health condition.
Hamaji stepped away from serialization in December 2025 after disclosing that she had been dealing with persistent health issues. The original plan was to resume chapters in early 2026, but recovery took longer than anticipated and the hiatus extended through the spring. In a personal message accompanying the return announcement, Hamaji clarified that her condition was physical in nature, not mental, and thanked readers for their patience during the extended break.
The hiatus arrived shortly after the manga's eighth compiled volume shipped on November 27, 2025, leaving readers on an extended wait for new story content. Meanwhile, Yen Press continued its English-language release schedule, with the seventh English volume arriving on November 11, 2025.
The next chapter of Bocchi the Rock! will appear in the upcoming issue of Manga Time Kirara Max on June 18. The magazine did not specify whether Hamaji would maintain a regular publication cadence going forward or adopt a modified schedule to accommodate her ongoing recovery. Fans of the four-panel comedy have been following the series since its launch in Kirara Max in December 2017, and the franchise's popularity surged dramatically after CloverWorks adapted the manga into a critically acclaimed anime series in fall 2022.
The 2022 anime adaptation became one of the year's breakout hits, drawing widespread praise for its inventive visual direction and heartfelt portrayal of social anxiety through the lens of a high school band. The show's success propelled the manga's sales and expanded the franchise's global audience considerably, making the return of the source material especially significant for the community that grew around the adaptation.
Bocchi the Rock! follows Hitori Gotoh, a socially anxious guitar prodigy who joins the band Kessoku Band in hopes of fulfilling her dream of performing live. The series blends comedy, music, and genuine emotional depth within the four-panel format, a combination that resonated with readers long before the anime brought it to a wider audience.
With eight compiled volumes in Japan and seven in English via Yen Press, the manga has built a substantial backlog for new readers to catch up on ahead of the June return. The franchise remains one of Houbunsha's flagship Kirara properties, and the resumption of serialization will be welcome news for fans who have been waiting since late 2025 for new chapters.
Hamaji's return to the page on June 18 marks the end of one of the longer hiatuses in the Kirara Max lineup's recent history, and readers can look forward to new installments of Hitori's story next month.
